Electrotherapy is a therapeutic treatments using electric stimulation, hot & cold therapies. Electrotherapy is a physical therapeutic treatment whereby electrical stimulation is applied to nerves and muscle-motor fibres via electro-pads placed on the skin. Electrotherapy can be used in many ways depending on the patient’s problems.
Most commonly used electrotherapy includes:
T.E.N.S
It is used basically to treat chronic pain.T.E.N.S.is a highly effective treatment for pain whereby electrodes are placed on or near the area of pain and soothing pulses are sent via the electrodes through the skin and along the nerve fibres to stimulate the sensory nerves to block pain signals.
Ultrasound
It utilized high frequency sound waves in neuromuscular and muscular skeletal diseases deliver energy to cells to mobilized collagen tissue remove oedma and reduce pain & inflammation, improve joint range of motion, reduce muscle spasm and improve tissue re-generation by improving their functions.
I.F.T
It is essentially a deeper form of TENS.
There are 4 main clinical applications for which IFT has been found to be effective:
- Pain relief
- Muscle stimulation – prevent muscle wastage, re-education, maintain range of motion
- Increased local blood flow
- Reduction of oedema
S.W.D
It is used to generate deep heat withing body tissue for problems like pain muscle spasm soft tissue injuries joint infilamation tendinitis bersities capsulities O.A., joint rehab, and muscle fatigue etc.
Traction
Weather it is sprain, strain, slip disk or dislocation. Traction plays an important role in reducing pain.
Traction stretch the ligament and muscles to improve blood circulation. It helps in decompressing the nerve. It breaks the adhesions in the neck joint.
